El Golfo de Santa Clara, Sonora Mexico

My business partner, Maria Alemany, and I just listed a cute house in El Golfo de Santa Clara, and the El Capitan Restaurant, Bar and RV park also in El Golfo de Santa Clara. The house is about 6 blocks from the beach and the restaurant El Capitan is beach front. Since the only real estate agent in town retired, she has graciously given us her home to list and the El Capitan that is owned by her friend Teresa. See Teresa’s interview at the link below. See the home link below.IMG_4283
El Golfo de Santa Clara holds many memories for many people, and many memories are continuing to be made now, since El Golfo is a huge attraction for its sandy pristine beaches, weekend getaways and camping, there are several nice hotels here too. It is Yuma’s beach, about a 2 hr drive, and even shorter drive for those coming from San Luis and Mexicali. This is where the 4 wheelers and dune buggies go, very popular for Mexicans and Americans to bring their ATV’s, they have races, there are many youtube videos about it. This one is good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9d5H78sdQo
Tom and Sandy O’Hare the publishers of the Rocky Point Times always wrote about the “El Golfo Run” every year. Glen Martinez, a Puerto Penasco and Arizona Realtor also is a huge fan of El Golfo, he and his family have been going there for 40 years, way before electricity and paved roads he tells me!
Many people stop there and don’t go any further to Rocky Point. Jacques Cousteau’s Calypso’s team went there to study and record the Vaquita (looks like a dolphin), Sean Penn’s movie “Into the Wild” was filmed there, Teresa the owner of El Capitan has a photo of Sean Penn up on her “celebrity wall”: http://www.imdb.com/search/title?locations=El%20Golfo%20de%20Santa%20Clara%2C%20Sonora%2C%20Mexico&ref_=ttloc_loc_1
The movie “Borderline” was also filmed there.
There is also beachfront land listing in the MLS and I have access to that information for anyone that is interested.
It is on the route of the new coastal highway that was completed a couple of years ago, in fact the road construction was held up in 2008, I remember I was in my office when my friend, Liane Armstrong wrote up a rental contract for some archeologists staying in Rocky Point, there were many archeologists that were on the dig, once the government and diggers were satisfied then they could complete the road construction. There are still digs going on today.

Mexico: A Smart Investment Opportunity?

Mexico: A Smart Investment Opportunity?

Thinking of making an investment in Mexico? Wells Fargo strategists explain why it could be a smart investment decision.wf_invest_mexico_lg
News stories from Mexico rarely highlight the country’s robust economic growth, a burgeoning car export industry or its rising national productivity. But many observers argue that the economic story is defining Mexico’s future. Investors who 10 years ago looked beyond the headlines and found merit in the country’s economic fundamentals and enlightened fiscal policies have seen the Mexican Bolsa equity index average a 21.7 percent annual gain during the 2003–2012 decade, according to Bloomberg and calculations from Wells Fargo Advisors.

Puerto Vallarta Olas Altas

Just walking along the street in Olas Altas in the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta, off to see a condo for a client. Shot a few nice pics along the street, plus an updated photo of the new mosaic wall where the farmers market is held on Saturdays.

Also I took a short video of the mosaic wall:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzI8AFBzM1c

Puerto Vallarta Chihuahuas

I was walking to view a condo for a client today, and I was on Lazaro Cardenas, just one half block to the beach (Los Muertos Beach) in Puerto Vallarta. I walked by a dress store and saw this cute group waiting for someone to take their photo. I have seen these babies before when the store was open, and with the door wide open, and even when I had my little dog with me, these well behaved chihuahuas would not step one foot outside the store.

Today they were patiently waiting for their mommy to return. They were so precious, everyone that walked by said they wanted to just cuddle them and give lots of kisses to them.

Puerto Vallarta morning coffee

Puerto Vallarta morning coffee. Extra Large. This was outside of my apartment the other day, I knew I needed to take a couple photos. This is near the river and the bridge. The other side of the bridge is Emiliano Zapata, where I had taken photos and blogged about the vegetable and meat mercados. https://mexicanbeachbum.wordpress.com/2013/03/18/puerto-vallarta-vegetable-and-meat/

This side of the bridge where these guys were, is in Caloso, where I live. Another beautiful day in PV.

AMPI Chapter Riviera Nayarita of the Puerto Vallarta Banderas Bay Region

The Puerto Vallarta area AMPI chapter called “AMPI Riviera Nayarita” held a membership meeting last week, Thursday March 21 and introduced the new Board. From left to right are:

Manuel Flores Roldán – SecretaryIMG_3470

Jonathon Smart – President

Claudio Leone – Treasurer

Fabián O’Rourke – Vice President

Alicia Camacho – Vocal

The President welcomed ideas from the membership, and is also looking for new members, since many “agents” in the
Banderas Bay area are not members of AMPI. AMPI is the Mexico real estate association “Asociación Mexicana de Profesionales Inmobiliarios”, and our chapter offers education, training, support and the tools we need to stay current with important market information, updates, everything we need to better serve and protect our clients. There are 3 chapters in the Puerto Vallarta region of Banderas Bay and we are enrolled in the official AMPI recognized MLS. Visit the AMPI Riviera Nayarita Chapter’s website: http://ampirivieranayarita.com/

Downtown Puerto Vallarta

In downtown Puerto Vallarta just above the river, and 1/2 block to the malecon, and in the heart of the markets, there is a cool looking piece of art. It is built in the wall, looks like a fountain, yet instead of water, there are plants. The tile work is beautiful and notice the ceramic iguana hanging on the wall. This is just below the one way street coming into downtown Vallarta. When you walk up the stairs to the street and look left, you will see the River Cafe.

Puerto Vallarta Casa Kimberly Walking Tour

???????????????????????????????Sorry for how this looks, I uploaded a bunch of photos and not sure how to arrange them, and one turned sideways. They are in order of my self guided walking tour. Have you ever lived somewhere and never took the time to go see a historical landmark? I lived in Tucson Arizona for many years and never went to the Grand Canyon. It took me moving to another state to decide to visit it. I also don’t go to the beach alot, because I know it will always be there!

That’s how I have been in Puerto Vallarta. I go to work, I go home. Rinse and repeat! I have lived in Puerto Vallarta selling real estate for 2 1/2 years and realized the time has flown by so fast and there are a few things I have not done and decided to put them on my bucket list. SO starting last Sunday, March 10th I started with my first adventure! Have you heard of “Casa Kimberly”?

In 1964, when they filmed John Huston’s Night of the Iguana movie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058404/with Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, Sue Lyon, Deborah Kerr. Elizabeth Taylor came to visit Richard Burton on the set, along came the Papparazzi which helped make Puerto Vallarta famous. (Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were married but not to each other)

Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor had 2 homes which connected to each other with a bridge painted pink. I had always wanted to see this but either didn’t have the time, busy working or just got lazy. Turns out that when I wrote it in my notes that I WILL do this, it came to be. So my doggy “Joaquina” and I had our showers and breakfast and started the walk. I live in Caloso which is a few blocks from Gringo Gulch where Casa Kimberly is on Zaragoza Street. I took photos along the way and below are the photos, pretty much in order, and some are when I turned back to look from where I came. There were quite a few others doing the same thing. I also discovered a bridge that I will discover later, I needed to stay focused on the task at hand. I had heard that someone has been trying to rebuild the homes, but I don’t know the real story. I did see some building materials inside the gate and took a photo of it. Who really knows the what and when to the construction details.

When I turned left onto the white handrailed bridge I did take a couple photos from that, then turned back to the Casa Kimberly on Zaragoza Street plan.

After I passed Casa Kimberly and continued walking, I came to a dead end. This is a narrow road and cars did drive through, and there is a way to turn right so where you will be behind the church, but I stayed on my course. There are 2 staircases on either side of the dead end. The views were beautfiful. I chose the left stairs. There was a guy sitting in the shade, we exchanged words in Spanish, he was very sweet. At the bottom, there is a bust statue of somebody that looked famous so I took the photo and looked him up later. Don Agustin Flores Contreras, here’s more info: http://visitpuertovallarta.com/blog/2012/12/agustin-flores-contreras/  My next photos I can see the plaza near the malecon and a nice destination that I had not planned on but was a nice treat…Starbucks!!! They were having a 2 for 1 special. Was very nice to sit and relax and visit with tourists. I love Starbucks. The small cup is water for Joaquina (http://www.facebook.com/#!/joaquinathedog) and a photo shows me sharing some whipped cream on a stick with her. She loves having a treat, and she is a magnet, people love walking up to her and taking her picture and saying hello. Tomorrow, Sunday March 17, I will do another fun thing and walk along the river near the mercados and will take photos. I will also find a place for green beer for St. Patrick’s day!

Massage in Puerto Vallarta

I had a great massage today! The Mexican Beach Bum is working all the time. It is high season and lots of tourists in Puerto Vallarta and some of them are looking for good real estate deals. We have them! If you want to have access to our MLS, let me know and I can give you a password. Now back to the massage!

I purchased it from the cupocity website that delivers deals right to my inbox. Cupocity offered this massage for about 160 pesos, to get more exposure for their place. I had a 1 hour massage and a 20 minute foot reflexology for around $12. What a deal! That is enough to bring me back. That is the point. It is called Angels Massage in downtown Puerto Vallarta on Aquiles Serdan, about 4 blocks from the beach. Octavio was awesome. He has strong hands and very good. What I really liked is the table. The Massage table was custom built, very strong, very comfortable and it was wide, wide enough to leave the arms comfortable, rather than the typical small massage table that the arms hang over the sides and you can’t get comfortable.

It was very calming, nice aromas and music, and as my mind raced about all the things I had to do, I decided STOP THAT, enjoy the moment. Then I fell asleep! But woke back up a few minutes later. Great massage and foot reflexology by Octavio at Angles Massage downtown Puerto Vallarta. 322-223-0231. Remember to always tip according to the full price, not the coupon price!

These are the photos I took with my iPhone:
