Puerto Vallarta: Mexican Economy Minister Says Protectionism is Negative

Protectionist measures can negatively impact consumers’ pocketbooks and employment outlook, Mexico’s Economy Minister Bruno Ferrari said on Friday.

“One of the main conclusions of this meeting is that protectionism carries a substantial economic cost for consumers and for the labor market,” Ferrari said after the two-day meeting of economy and trade ministers from the Group of 20 (G20) ended in Mexico’s Pacific coastal city of Puerto Vallarta.

He told reporters at a press conference that the ministers exchanged viewpoints on how to strengthen the G20’s commitment to resisting protectionism and combating moves that restrict trade.
