In Puerto Vallarta surprises are a constant factor in everyday life. A day planned for relaxing may end up with a big party or vice versa. And that’s exactly what happened to me last Wednesday night.

It started normally with a quiet morning, enjoying the sea at Mango’s Beach Club, lying on a beach bed and enjoying a great drink. Then I checked out the official Puerto Vallarta Twitter account (@PVVisit) to see what would be going on that night and that’s when my day started to change.

Puerto Vallarta clean beaches award

The VIII National Clean Beaches Summit took place in Mazatlan, Sinaloa this year. At the event, Puerto Vallarta was recognized with an official document that certifies four of its beaches: Palmares, Camarones (promoted to level 2), Garza Blanca, Amapas and Conchas Chinas.

Councilman, Juan Pablo García Castillón and Director of Public City Works, Roberto González Gutierrez attended the event as representatives of our destination. CONAGUA’s President, José Luis Luegue Tamargo and the Governor of Sinaloa, Mario López Valdez were given the task of granting the certificate.

Despite the numbers, Puerto Vallarta is Mexico’s New Spring Break Hotspot

Despite intimidating travel warnings issued by the United States urging spring breakers to avoid Mexico, student travel to the land of tequila and tacos is on the rise. A release from Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism reports that nearly 77,000 spring breakers visited Mexico this year, which is a 7.2 percent surge from the year before. The majority of these travelers spent their time off in the traditional spring-break-hotspot of Cancun and the Riviera Maya, but it’s a much lesser known spring break city that’s been making some serious waves.

The coastal city of Puerto Vallarta and its sister city to the north, Nuevo Vallarta, welcomed more than 15,000 tourists during the spring break season this year – an increase of 7.3 percent from the year before. Without question, an important contributor to 2012’s success was, a first of its kind, forty-two night electronic dance music experience that was held throughout the major nightclubs of Puerto Vallarta.

Mexico, Latin America’s second largest economy, is looking to become among the top five international tourism destinationsby 2018. Today, Mexico is ranked #10 according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization.

Most importantly, Mexico is expected to increase by more than 5 percent the number of international arrivals in 2012, to a total of at least 24.6 million foreign tourist visits.

A united celebration took place tonight as the Santa Barbara Sister City Committee hosted El Fandango at the El Paseo Restaurant. About 200 supporters wearing traditional Fiesta outfits attended the event.

Resort promotes Sea Turtle Rescue Program

Turtle hatching season is under way in Puerto Vallarta, where the CasaMagna Marriott’s 10-year-old program of collecting and releasing sea turtles will continue through December. Last year the resort released  last year more than 47,000 turtles. Sea Turtle Rescue Program encourages guests to gather eggs at the beach and to name and release newly hatched turtles – some 293,000 over the last decade.

Goat Tacos in Puerto Vallarta

Goat tacos, “Chiva” were great this morning. After dropping off my dog at the vet for grooming I went across the street for breakfast at a taco stand I have never been to.  They had tongue, head, eyes, and the meat was delicious, I love the beef eyes, head and tongue but the goat was really very good! This is a popular stand I found out, always very busy. the place of 4 tacos cost 48 pesos, about 3.50 US.

Yummy!!
